今日の箇所は話では視覚的にも興味深く、よく知っていましたが改めて学ぶ機会となりました。
一行がカファルナウムに来た時、神殿税を集める人々がやってきて、「あなた方の先生（イエス様）は神殿税を納めないのか？」と聞きました。そしてペテロは「納めます」と答えたのです。
それを聞いたイエス様はペトロを批判するのではなく、諭すように教えました。
「地上の王たちは税や貢物を誰から受け取るか？自分の子供からか？それとも外部からか？」
当然「外部からです」とペテロは答えました。そして結論は「子供は納めなくてもよい」です。
イエス様の論点は、こうです。神殿は天の父で、その息子であるイエス様は神殿税を納めなくてよい。ただでさえ、祭司、レビ人、ラビは神殿税を免除されていたのであるから。
しかし、ここで納めないとなると彼らにつまずきを与える。そこで、自分たちの懐の中から納めるのではなく、奇跡的な方法でそれを天の父に与えていただくようにしよう。
そしてイエス様はペテロに湖に行って釣りをするように言われ、なんと最初に釣れた魚から銀貨一枚が見つかったのです。そしてそれを神殿にイエス様とペトロの分として納めました。
この方法なら税金というよりも神への捧げものという形に近いのではないか？と思います。
イエス様は自分の権威を損ねかねない不必要なことは一切されなかったのです。イエス様は本当に素晴らしい方です。私たちを憤らず諭し、英知に満ちた最善の方法に導いてくださいます。
I knew today’s famous story well, but it was a good opportunity for me to learn more about what is the meaning what Jesus taught to Peter.
When they had come to Capernaum, temple tax collector came to Pater and said, “Does your teacher not pay the temple tax?” And Peter said “Yes”.
After hearing this, Jesus told Peter, “From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?” Pater said, “from strangers”. And conclusion of this is their sons don’t have to pay any taxes.
The discussion point of Jesus is as follows; The temple is the Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus also doesn’t have to pay any taxes to the temple, considering that even priests, Levites, and rabbis are exempt. Jesus told Peter, “Lest we offend the collectors, we can ask Father what we need with miraculous way, not paying it from our wallet. Go to lake and take the fish that comes up first, and you find a piece of money in the mouth of the fish. Then take that and give it to them for me and you.” What Jesus told was happened.
I think giving the money from the mouth of fish found accidentaly is more like offering rather than tax paying. Jesus didn't do unnecessary things that could undermine his authority. We praise Jesus, son of God! He admonishes us without indignation and guides us to the best way full of wisdom.
